An exquisite new tempera masterwork after Giovanni Bellini’s (1430-1516) “Madonna Adorante con Bambino”, 1475, currently in Verona at the Museo del Castelvecchio.
Traditional egg tempera and rabbit glue with mineral and gem pigments on seasoned old wood. Crushed garnets are used in the mantle red. 24K gold over tempera base covers almost half the work, and the full perimeter borders.
A jewel-grade devotional piece, that takes 10-14 days of production work. May be hung directly on a wall, or professionally set in relief over a silk damask or velvet fabric backdrop, and framed.
Measures 6 1/2” by 4 1/2”. Purchased from a private collection of a traditional tempera studio in Rome that works with the techniques described in Cennino Cennini’s “Libro dell’Arte” from the XV century. Single signed work with Italian description on verso.
